Superintendent's Message

October 1st

By Miller, Trevor

August 27, 2017

Superintendent Update:

Happy October 1st: It is hard to believe we are already to October in the school year. Our students and staff have been working hard since the start of the school year.

The elementary has been working with the state on our Fastbridges testing for Fluency and Accuracy. The state switched from one host to another and as with any change in technology there has been some challenges.

CLASSROOM VISITS:

I have had the chance to start visiting classrooms and seeing all of the great discussions, lessons, and engagement between our students and staff.

Stem Best (FIRE CLASSROOM)

Our Stem Best (FIRE) classroom has been awarded a $500 grant from the Economic Workforce and will be presented the award on Wednesday Oct. 4th in Denison. I have been involved with different partnership activities and it is fun to watch the students build upon their success and start expanding the program. There is a 3-year plan for the program and year one is currently on track and is having great interest from our community partnerships.

PLC’s Professional Development:

Our staff has been working hard with Tiffany and Corey during professional development on the collaborative team cycle as we break down our essential standards and work toward common formative and summative assessments. We have also partnered with teams in the WIC conference to provide additional resources for our Career Technical teachers as well as other opportunities that arise during this process.  The Collaboration teams allows our teachers to utilize resources to help themselves grow as professionals.

School Board Elections:

September 12th brought about School Board Elections across the state and the IKM-Manning district has 4 open seats with 8 people running either by district or at large. It was great to see the number of individuals who voted and after the count was completed we had two board members re-elected and two new members.  Members re-elected were Amy Ferneding and Sam Hansen. New Members are Lucas Potthoff and Ron Reischl. If you would like to contact one of the board members their contact information is listed on our website.

Ron and Lucas will be attending new board member orientation on October 4th in Carroll with myself.

We have a great School Board and I am looking forward to working with them to help make our district great!

I am looking forward to the month of October. Our next School Board meeting with be Thursday October 19th at 7:00 in Manning.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Trevor Miller
