Regular Board Meeting Minutes & Calendar Hearing
February 20, 2019, 6:00 p.m.
IKM-Manning CSD HS STEMBEST Classroom
The meeting was called to order at 6:02 p.m. by President Heller. Board members present were Heller, Hansen, Ferneding, Maas, & Meiners. Directors Potthoff & Rasmussen were absent. Others in attendance were Supt. Miller, Secretary North, Principals Wall & Whitson, and approximately three guests.
Motion by Maas second by Meiners to approve agenda and motion carried unanimously.
President Heller welcomed the visitors and shared a thank you note from the Jack Powers family.
The hearing for the 2019-2020 School Calendar was called to order at 6:03 p.m. by President Heller. There being no comments on the calendar, motion by Ferneding, second by Maas to close the hearing and the hearing closed at 6:05 p.m.
Pete from ESTES gave an overview of the site visit that he and his team had performed, handed each Board Member a booklet and instructions on how to read the documents and gave a brief overview on findings from both sites.
Motion by Hansen, second by Ferneding to approve the consent agenda (minutes from January 17, 2019, Financial Reports, Bills) and motion carried unanimously.
There were no TLC reports.
Principal Wall gave kudos to speech contest participants and congratulations to the jazz band for qualifying for the jazz championship, and shared MTSS training he took along with 4 staff members. Principal Whitson shared that she and several staff members attended a SAMI training, that several staff members were being trained in the Maker Space Classroom and that a before school/after school program survey would be taken at spring conferences. Superintendent Miller shared much of his time had been spent on weather related issues, working with ESTES, meetings with the insurance company on renewal rates, working with calendar committee on calendar, and being a member of the mental health committee with the AEA’s on getting needs met in rural Iowa schools. He also shared that he and Mrs. North would be attending the Forecast 5 Budget meeting next Tuesday.
Motion by Maas, second by Ferneding to approve 2019-2020 school calendar and motion carried unanimously.
Motion by Meiners, second by Maas to move April 18, 2019 meeting to April 11, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. in the IKM-Manning HS STEMBEST Classroom to meet the April 15th filing deadline of the budget and motion
carried unanimously.
Motion by Ferneding, second by Meiners to Set Budget Hearing April 11, 2019, 7:00 p.m. in the IKM-Manning HS STEM-BEST Classroom and motion carried unanimously.
Motion by Hansen, second by Maas to approve the Superintendent Mid-Year Review and motion carried unanimously.
Motion by Hansen, second by Ferneding to approve the following hires and resignations:
McKaylie Croghan – 2019-2020 Special Education Teacher
Michaela Sander – 2018-2019 Special Education Para
Gregory Skeen – 2018-2019 JH Track
Andrea Nulle – 2018-2019 Resignation from Ass’t Softball Coach
Motion carried unanimously.
Motion by Hansen, second by Meiners to approve following 2018-2019 calendar changes:
March 18, 2019 – Make up day (all day)
April 18, 2019 – Make up day (all day)
May 23, 2019 – Full day of school
May 24, 2019 – Last day of school with 1:30 p.m. dismissal
April 19 or April 22 TBA pending today’s cancellation and possible future cancellations
There being no further business, motion by Maas, second by Ferneding to adjourn. Motion carried unanimously and meeting adjourned at 7:42 p.m.
The next meeting will be March 14, 2019, 7:00 p.m. in the Irwin Elementary School Library.
