Protecting The Kids
IKM-Manning schools desires to promote & support the physical and emotional safety of all students on our school grounds and beyond. Through a partnership with
Community Christ Celebration (C3) and the IKM-Manning School District an assembly for both middle school & high school students was presented to proactively protect the children and youth of our community on Wednesday, February 1.
Presenters included:
Ruth Eley: Ruth is a Community Prevention Advocate for many programs and was Iowa’s Prevention Manager for Teens Against Human Trafficking. With permission, Ruth shared Iowa trafficking stories with the goal of creating awareness and increasing safety. Ruth’s stories became personal through her role as a foster parent. Ruth has parented over 90 teens including multiple survivors of human trafficking. She advocates for all Iowa youth to learn about this crime and how it is thriving in Iowa.
Roger Sailer: Roger has served as an Iowa District Court Judge since 2020. Roger’s judicial district includes Crawford, Ida, Monona, Woodbury, Plymouth, and Sioux counties. Prior to his appointment to the District bench, Judge Sailer served as Crawford County Attorney. Roger brought a local and legal perspective to safe texting.
Pastor Jonathan Conner: Pastor Conner serves Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. Interactions with the media on screens are often gateways to the darkness of trafficking. Pastor Conner encouraged students to put down their screens and interact more with the physical world around them.
C3 has been a partner with the school in previous education events and was happy to be the financial and organizational host for this presentation. For eleven years C3 has brought together the churches of the community to address community needs. Foremost of the C3 initiatives is the local food pantry offered in cooperation with New Opportunities. C3 appreciates the cooperation and generous financial support of the community.
