IKM-Manning Announces Nolan Shanks as 4-12 Principal

Shanks transitions to new role in the IKM-Manning Community School District

Manning, IA (April 12, 2023) – The IKM-Manning Community School announced Friday that Nolan Shanks has been hired as the 4-12 principal for the upcoming 2023-24 school year, pending board approval.  This position became available after the resignation of long time principal, Brian Wall.

Shanks interviewed with three groups of stakeholders including school staff, board members, and parents.  His experience with our students and staff, knowledge of  school initiatives, and his long term vision for the district helped him rise to the top of the candidates.

“We are excited for Mr. Shanks to be our next 4-12 principal and to continue our work that was identified in the strategic plan that was created over the past year,” said Superintendent Trevor Miller. “Our administration team is looking forward to working with him in this new role.”

Shanks is very excited about the opportunity to make a difference with both staff and students.  “ When I first came to this district in 2020, I learned a great deal about what it means to be a member of the IKM-Manning team,” said Shanks.  “In my different roles of being a middle school teacher, high school teacher, and K-12 instructional coach for our district, I have experienced an immense level of pride for the school district. Our communities have a staff dedicated to the growth and achievement of all students, and for this reason, it is an honor to be selected as the next 4-12 principal at IKM-Manning. Together, we can and will achieve great things for our students. My goal in the coming months is to learn as much as possible about the school’s culture, traditions, and strengths while also working to ensure our continued success in the future. I am humbled to continue my work in this capacity within these great communities.”

Shanks resides in Carroll with his wife Kristi, a high school counselor at Carroll High School, and his two young daughters.  He will begin his new role in the district on August 1.
